On American television, "I Love Lucy" was the undisputed top-rated show in the country, while Kay Starr's "Wheel of Fortune" held the number one spot on the music charts. In sports, the Minneapolis Lakers claimed the NBA championship by defeating the New York Knicks, the same spring that "The Greatest Show on Earth" took home the Academy Award for Best Picture.
