By the winter of 1952, Truman was in the White House and the federal minimum wage stood at $0.75/hr — and the United Nations had just voted down the Soviet Union's proposed Korea cease-fire plan, with the Red Bloc standing alone in support as the Korean War ground on with no end in sight. On television, "I Love Lucy" was the undisputed hit of the season, while at the box office "I'll See You in My Dreams" topped the charts and Johnnie Ray's "Cry" dominated radio airplay across the country. In professional football, the Detroit Lions claimed the NFL championship, and on the world stage, American athletes traveled to Oslo, Norway for the Winter Olympics and returned with 11 medals, including 4 gold.
