On the cultural front, "The Beverly Hillbillies" was drawing some of the largest television audiences in the country, while John le Carré's "The Spy Who Came in from the Cold" sat at the top of the fiction bestseller list. The Boston Celtics claimed the NBA championship by defeating the San Francisco Warriors, the same spring that Jerrie Mock landed her plane in Columbus, Ohio, becoming the first woman to complete a solo flight around the world.
