By the winter of 1967, Johnson was in the White House and the federal minimum wage stood at $1.40/hr — the United Nations was actively debating a path toward peace in Vietnam, with the Senate unanimously passing a resolution urging President Johnson to seek Security Council intervention in the conflict. On the cultural front, The Monkees held the number one spot on the charts with "I'm A Believer," while William Manchester's "Death of a President" sat atop the nonfiction bestseller list. The Philadelphia 76ers had just claimed the NBA championship over the San Francisco Warriors, and that same winter the United Nations General Assembly voted by consensus to adopt the Rescue Agreement, a landmark treaty establishing the rights and obligations of nations in the recovery of astronauts and spacecraft in outer space.
