A Big Mac cost $0.75 that summer of 1975, and the Dow Jones sat at 852 — the Suez Canal had just reopened for the first time since the 1967 Six-Day War, restoring one of the world's most critical shipping routes after eight years of closure. At the movies, "Jaws" was drawing record crowds and redefining what a summer blockbuster could be, while on the radio, "Love Will Keep Us Together" by The Captain & Tennille held the top spot for weeks. On July 17, American and Soviet spacecraft met in orbit when an Apollo capsule and a Soyuz 19 module successfully docked together, the first joint crewed mission between the two nations and a rare moment of cooperation at the height of the Cold War.
