The New York Mets defeated the Boston Red Sox in a memorable seven-game World Series, and the International Olympic Committee made history by announcing that starting in 1992, the Summer and Winter Games would no longer be held in the same year, with Barcelona awarded the Summer Games and Albertville the Winter Games.
