On television, "Cheers" remained the top-rated show in the country, while "Dances with Wolves" had just taken home the Academy Award for Best Picture, and Natalie Cole's Grammy Album of the Year "Unforgettable... with Love" was playing on radio stations across the nation. The Chicago Bulls defeated the Los Angeles Lakers to claim their first NBA championship, the same spring that Israel launched Operation Solomon, a dramatic 36-hour airlift that brought more than 14,000 Ethiopian Jews to Israel in a single covert mission.
