That fall of 1992, gas ran $1.13 a gallon and Bush was in the White House — and Bill Clinton had just won the presidential election, ending twelve years of Republican control of the White House. On the radio, Boyz II Men were deep into a record-breaking run at number one with "End Of The Road (From 'Boomerang')", while on television, "Seinfeld" had just taken home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series. The Toronto Blue Jays won the World Series that October, becoming the first Canadian team to claim the title, and earlier that fall, Peruvian police had captured Abimael Guzmán, the founder of the Shining Path guerrilla movement, after twelve years on the run.
