The Toronto Blue Jays clinched their second straight World Series title by defeating the Philadelphia Phillies in six games, and that same fall, the International Olympic Committee awarded the year 2000 Summer Games to Sydney, Australia, setting the stage for what would become one of the most celebrated Olympics in modern history.
