Kelly's "Bump N' Grind" sat at the top of the Billboard Hot 100, and John Grisham's "The Chamber" was the novel readers were taking to the beach. The Houston Rockets won their first NBA championship that June by defeating the New York Knicks, the same spring that the Channel Tunnel officially opened between England and France, allowing passengers to travel between the two countries by rail in 35 minutes for the first time in history.
