On screens and speakers, Brad Pitt and Morgan Freeman were drawing massive crowds to the thriller "Seven," and "Seinfeld" remained the country's dominant sitcom, pulling in tens of millions of viewers every Thursday night. The Atlanta Braves claimed the World Series over the Cleveland Indians, and in October, astronomers Michel Mayor and Didier Queloz announced the discovery of 51 Pegasi b, the first confirmed planet found orbiting a sun-like star outside our solar system.
