The Chicago Bulls, led by Michael Jordan, claimed their fourth NBA championship by defeating the Seattle SuperSonics, the same spring that the X Prize Foundation announced a $10 million competition to spur the first privately funded spaceflight — a milestone that would help define the commercial space race for the next decade.
