In sports, the San Antonio Spurs defeated the Detroit Pistons to claim the NBA championship, and that same spring, a team of astronomers at the Palomar Observatory discovered a new dwarf planet beyond Pluto, later named Makemake, expanding the known boundaries of our solar system.
