On the cultural front, Beyonce's "Irreplaceable" was holding the number one spot on the pop charts while audiences were still talking about "The Departed," Martin Scorsese's crime drama that had just taken home the Oscar for Best Picture. The San Antonio Spurs were the reigning NBA champions after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Finals, and on January 9th, Apple CEO Steve Jobs stood on a stage in San Francisco and introduced the original iPhone, a device that would fundamentally change how people communicate, navigate, and consume information.
