By the winter of 2010, Obama was in the White House and the federal minimum wage stood at $7.25/hr — the country was also pressing China to check North Korea's nuclear ambitions and working through the aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis, with unemployment hovering near 10 percent as Congress debated job-creation measures. On screen and on the radio, James Cameron's "Avatar" was dominating the box office and becoming the highest-grossing film ever made, while Ke$ha's "TiK ToK" sat at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 for nine straight weeks. The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Boston Celtics in seven games to claim the NBA title, and at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, Canada, the US team brought home 37 medals, including 9 gold.
