On the radio, Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" was the song of the summer, while audiences lined up for "Ice Age: Continental Drift" at the multiplex and fans of E.L. James were keeping "Fifty Shades of Grey" at the top of the New York Times fiction list for weeks on end. That July and August, the Summer Olympics ran in London, where American athletes delivered a dominant performance, finishing with 46 gold, 29 silver, and 29 bronze medals for a total of 104, the highest medal count of any nation at the Games.
