The San Francisco Giants swept the Detroit Tigers to claim the World Series title, and just weeks earlier, Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner had made history by jumping from 128,000 feet above New Mexico and becoming the first person to break the sound barrier in freefall without any aircraft or engine.
